Banjo is a new location-based social media app that just launched for Android and iPhone. When you open the app, Banjo (http://ban.jo) will show you people who are near your current location based on public data from social networks. It initially shows you a grid of 16 people near you and from there you can view a person’s profile, which includes their bio and recent tweets. Most apps are about sharing with people you do know, so I find this app interesting because it uses mobile technology to let us connect with those around us that we don’t know. Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that oversharing of information can result in situations that are unfavorable, even dangerous so please be careful about your sharing. So let’s be very clear here, this app pushes the boundaries that most people will be comfortable with, but it is very good at showing you what’s going on immediately around you. Android. You certainly know a friend who has one, and if you’re like me - you’ve got one.
Most of us in the office have switched to using Android phones, and in our case we are using the HTC Desire from our client U.S. Cellular. One of the best things about the Android phones is the ability to customize them with apps — apps we use for business, apps for social media and apps that are just fun. The app market for Android started out light in terms of mainstream apps, but as the number of Android phones has grown developers are now releasing for all platforms. The app market has over 200,000 apps and growing everyday. One of my favorite features about the app market is that I can install apps to my phone with one click from the browser. Try it out: go to http://market.android.com and click on any app and it will give you the ability to install it to your phone. Read the rest of this entry »
Imagine walking into Target and finding that perfect Christmas gift, but instead of putting it into your shopping cart, you pull out your Android or iPhone, scan the barcode (UPC) and discover you can save 20% if you buy it online instead of offline in the store at Target. This dream has quickly become reality this year as mobile-enabled shoppers are bringing new transparency to pricing this holiday shopping season. It has become very easy to price check that gift with Amazon or eBay. Not only can you go to their individual websites to price check, but a number of apps have emerged that will allow you to search for the item by name, voice or UPC and then check the item against hundreds of online retailers and return their prices. I’ve recently jumped to an Android phone when I started using the new HTC Desire from our client U.S. Cellular. (For the geeks out there this phone is very similar to Google’s Nexus One). I’ve had the phone about two weeks and I’ve been very happy with it. Read the rest of this entry »

Apple released the iPad and the debate instantly began to rage. Does it have enough features? Is it powerful enough? Is the screen too large or too small? Is this a game-changer?
My vision of the iPad legacy is not as a game-changer, but certainly a catalyst. Here’s why: Read the rest of this entry »
